General Note:

Accession consists of 18 maps of Ontario and Quebec as well as 1 technical drawing of a ship, the S.S. "Bonavista". Maps have been collected together from various sources, including the Rand McNally and Company's New Indexed Atlas of the World; the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the U.S. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; the Department of Lands, Forests and Fisheries; & the Crown Lands Department.

Items #1, 2 & 3 are from Rand, McNally & Company's New Indexed Atlas of the World.
Items #5 & 6 were drawn by S. Augustus Mitchell Jr.
Items #9 & 10 were drawn by Jules Tache, A.P.
Item #11 was drawn by Gustave Rinfret.
Item #18 was drawn by B.P. McConnell, P.L.P.

Physical description note:

All items have been inserted into a scrapbook. Items #1 & 2 are bound into the scrapbook; items # 3, 4, 5, 6 & 17 have been inserted between various leaves. The remaining items have all been pasted into the scrapbook.
Item #9 is one map on 3 sheets; item #10 is one map on 8 sheets.
All items larger than 38 x 24 cm have been folded to fit into the scrapbook.

Note on the state of conservation:

Some maps have edge or fold tears. Item #4 is extremely fragile and needs repair.

Custodial history:

Accession was transferred in February 1980 from the National Photography Collection.

Accompanying material note:

Included with the maps are a few railway schedules and fare rate listings for the Intercolonial Railway of Canada and the Prince Edward Island Railway.

Language note:

Items #9, 10 & 11 are in French.

Cartographic math data:

Scales differ.

Dates of creation note:

Finding aid and inventory description give date range as 1884-1902 yet items #4, 5 and 6 are pre-Confederation and both items #5 & 6 include references to the date 1860 in the lower left corner.
