The collection consists of two distinct series: Portraits and Subjects including Official Visits. The Portraits series was used by the Department as a source of official portraits that were in demand by the general public. They included unsigned official portraits of the prime ministers (especially P.E. Trudeau) and the Governors General. This series also contains portraits (some stamped with the photographer's name) of federal politicians taken from the late 1960s on. There are portraits of provincial and municipal leaders as well as Canadians involved in the arts, sciences, architecture, etc. The Subject series was used as an internal stock image bank for in-house publications. The subjects tend to be broad headings, such as fisheries, nuclear energy, Indians, Inuit art, disabled persons, demonstrations, etc. The Visits series is either Royal Tours or visits to Canada by heads of foreign governments..Physical description note:Graphic (photo): 27, 23, 31b, 26b, 21Language note:Language of accompanying material: english.Source:Government
