Item consists of a bound volume containing court cases brought against or pertaining to First Nations people. The majority of the charges relate to intoxication or with providing or obtaining intoxicants. An amendment to the Indian Act in 1884 made it a felony for status Indians (First Nations) to enter a licensed establishment, or to buy or drink alcohol. It also became illegal to sell alcohol to a First Nations person. Other charges are recorded, some of them relating to traditional and cultural activities such as fishing and dancing.
