The War Charities Act of 1917 (7-8 Geo. V, c. 38, repealed, 1927, c. 39) required that all organizations raising funds for war charities be registered with the Secretary of State and that each make annual reports to the department outlining their activities. During the Second World War this function was assumed once again by the Secretary of State (3 Geo. VI, c.10) until its transfer to the Department of National War Services in 1940 (4 Geo. VI, c. 22).
This sub-series contains of an incomplete set of numbered subject files that was created by the Secretary of State under the War Charities Act.
