During both World Wars, the Secretary of State handled the liquidation of business transactions between Canadian nationals and corporations in enemy countries. In 1920 the office of the Custodian of Enemy Property was transferred from the Department of Finance to the Secretary of State. Its responsibilities were reparation payments and matters arising out of internment operations.
This sub-series consists of the certificates of release from internment.
