Collection consists of various media divided into four series as follows: Sound recordings; Moving images; Posters and promotional material; and National Film Society of Canada.

Also included in collection is one photograph depicting a visit of Lord and Lady Willingdon to Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, 1929.

Canadian Film Institute : The Canadian Film Institute (CFI) was incorporated in 1935 as a federally-chartered, non-governmental, non-profit cultural organization. Originally named the National Film Society of Canada, it was renamed in 1951 as the Canadian Film Institute. It was established to promote the appreciation and use of film, and would later help advance interest in television. In 1963 the CFI established a unit for the conservation, documentation and exhibition of films called the Canadian Film Archives, with Peter Morris as curator. From 1979 to 1982, Judith Crawley, a former partner in Crawley Films, was president of the Canadian Film Institute. In 1988, the CFI merged with the Conservatory of Cinematographic Art (Montreal) to form Cinematheque Canada. General Note:

Moving images and sound recordings were received by the National Archives of Canada between 1973 and 1986., Graphic material was acquired between 1972 and 1995 from the CFI.

Material in accessions 1973-0236 (MISA), 1973-0205 (MISA) and 1975-0206 (MISA) were part of the Canadian Film Institute's (CFI) transfer to the Moving Image and Sound Archives (MISA) of the National Archives of Canada on May 12, 1975. Any material received from the CFI which could be traced back to an original donor was accessioned under that donor's name and date of accession by the CFI. The remaining material was assigned to the Canadian Film Institute collection and given an accession number that reflects the orignal date of receipt by the CFI. Material in accession 1975-0206 is the core of the CFI's tansfer to the National Archives in 1975. The majority of these titles were purchased by the CFI., Material in accession 1976-0210 (MISA) is part of the deposit of films made by CFI to MISA in an agreement dated November 24, 1976 and received at MISA September 1976. As before, any films that could be traced back to an original donor were accessioned under that donor's name and date of accession by the CFI.
