Series includes material in a variety of graphic media including oil paintings, watercolours, prints, and photographs. The 41 prints and 48 watercolours of landscapes and cityscapes relate to the Province of Quebec. Other subjects include Niagara Falls and depictions of events and people from Canadian history; Macpherson family portraits are a significant sub-group. Works are by Walter Baker, Lucius Richard O'Brien, James Pattison Cockburn, Cornelius Krieghoff, James Peachey, William Sawyer, Richard Short, and Hervey Smyth, among others. The 13 prints comprise the scenes from Canadian history: Cartier Explores the St.Lawrence, 1535; Champlain returns from an Expedition. Quebec, 1625; Louis VIV and LaSalle, 1677; Father Joques Haranguing the Mohawks; The Sieur de Frontenac and Madockawando: Father Hennepin and his Indian converts; Phips enters Quebec Bay, 1690; Md'lle de Vercheres Defends her father's house against Indians; Wolfe Scaling the Herig of Abraham; Death of Montcalm; Arrival of British Fleet to Succour Quebec, 1775; the United Empire Loyalists, 1783. Work Nos. 1,3,4,5,6,and 7 are from the Champlain Edition of Parkman's Works "France and England in North America". Nos. 2,8,9,10,11, and 12 are by Lady Jane Lindsay.
