Canada. Dept. of Communications. Central Region : The Department of Communications set up five regional centres when the department was created in 1969. The Central Region was responsible for Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and had its main office in Winnipeg and district offices in Saskatoon, Grande Prairie, Edmonton and Calgary and elsewhere. The regional operations were devoted to managing the radio frequency spectrum and to providing government telecommunications services. In 1981, following the transfer of responsibility for arts and culture to the department, the regions were given added responsibilities in the areas of policy, information, research, space and arts and culture.
