Canada. Dept. of Communications. Office of the Director of the Telidon Program : Telidon was an example of videotex communications in Canada. Originally developed during military research in satellite communications, in 1969 the program was transferred from the Defence Research Telecommunications Establishment to the Department of Communications's Communications Research Centre in 1969. The Telidon videotex software used text and graphics to transmit information. Experimental use of Telidon began in 1977 and the first trials commenced in 1979. The system led to the establishment of the of the North American Presentation Level Syntax. Widespread adoption of the technology was slow and by the mid-1980s the Telidon program collapsed.
