Canada. Dept. of Communications. Atlantic Region : The Department of Communications set up five regional centres when the department was created in 1969. The Atlantic Region was responsible for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador; its main office was located in Halifax. The regional operations were devoted to managing the radio frequency spectrum and to providing government telecommunications services. In 1981, following the transfer of responsibility for arts and culture to the department, the regions were given added responsibilities in the areas of policy, information, research, space and arts and culture.
