Canada. Canadian Army. Canadian Railway Troops. Broad Gauge Operating Company, 58th : No. 58 Broad Gauge Operating Company was organized in December 1916 as No. 1 Section, Skilled Railway Employees commanded by Capt. Albert H. Kendall. It was redesignated as 12th (Canadian) Light Railway Operating Company, RE on 16 March 1917 and as No. 58, Broad Gauge Railway Operating Company, Canadians, RE on 7 April 1917. The battalion arrived in France on 19 April 1917. This unit was operating lines in the immediate rear of active operations and hauled troops , ammunition, supplies, material, ambulance trains, refugees, etc. for the battles of Messines Ridge, June 1917 and the Lys, April 1918. In the spring of 1918, No. 58 Broad Gauge Operating Company was brought under the command of the Headquarters, Canadian Railway Troops and became part of the Corps of Canadian Railway Troops. The No. 58 Broad Gauge Operating Company was disbanded on 19 April at Knotty Ash, England. The Corps of Canadian Railway Troops was disbanded by General Order 196 of 1 November 1920.
