Toronto Eastern Railway Company : The Toronto Eastern Railway Company was incorporated under Dominion Act, 9-10 Edward VII, Cap. 167 of 4 May 1910 to construct an electric railway from Toronto to Cobourg with various branches. A 14.6 mile line between Bowmanville and Whitby was constructed. The company was a property of Mackenzie and Mann and not of the Canadian Northern. After nationalization, the Canadian Northern purchased it on 23 September 1918. On 26 September 1923 the Toronto Eastern Railway Company amalgamated with the Toronto Suburban Railway Company to form Canadian National Electric Railways. RG30 General Inventory
