Dismantled album of albumen and salted paper prints taken by Alexander Henderson, William Notman, Armstrong, Beere and Hime. The views were taken between 1858 and 1865, most of the photographs showing personnel, bridges and depots of the Grand Trunk Railroad. Views include Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa and Detroit, Michigan. Subjects include several bridges under construction or completed, Port Hope, Victoria Bridge, Magog Bridge, Beloeil Bridge, Niagara Suspension Bridge, GTR Bridges over the Credit, Grand, Fish, Thames, Humber and Speed Rivers. Portraits include W.S. MacKenzie, Loco-Superintendent and H. Fourdrinier, Storekeeper for the GTR.

These album pages were likely removed by a Toronto rare book and manuscript dealer from an album entitled Reminiscences of North America: Thomas Evans Blackwell Album, which was acquired at auction by Library and Archives in 1998.

There are also 10 album pages which were sold to the Royal Ontario Museum containing drawings by a Montreal artist named Frederick Barnjum., There is additional material located at MIKAN 139644, entitled Reminiscences of North America I [Blackwell Album]. This album contains maps, photographs and watercolours of both a personal and corporate nature relating to the Grand Trunk Railway.

Other photographic material relating to the prints in the Blackwell album are in the album, "Canadian Scraps, No.1," also in the Andrew Merrilees Collection, Accession 1980-149, as well as in the A.[Alexander] M.[Mackenzie] Ross Album, Accession 1990-523, that belonged to Alexander Mackenzie Ross, one of the engineers responsible for the construction of the Victoria Bridge. Correspondence between Thomas Evans Blackwell and Joseph Hickson, Chief Accountant of the GTR 1861-1874 and General Manager, 1874-1891, is held in Manuscript Division as part of the Joseph Hickson Fonds, MG 29 A 29. There is also correspondence between Blackwell and other officials of the GTR in various other private textual fonds.
