Fonds consists of transcripts of the Sam Yuchtman Jewish Hour programme; sound recordings of various radio programs, shows, interviews in English and Yiddish produced and hosted by Sam Yuchtman, and Zelda Young (his daughter) during his career at CKFH radio, CFGM radio and CHIN radio in Toronto as well as various speeches and radio programs broadcast by the Israel Broadcasting Corporation, 1957-1982; also includes a film titled SHALOM illustrating Jewish home festivities at Zelda Young's home in Toronto, 1973.

Yuchtman, Sam, 1910-1979 : Sam Yuchtman was born in Lublin, Poland in 1910 and immigrated to Canada around 1917 with his family. They settled in Winnipeg where he received his education. In 1936 he moved to Toronto where he became responsible for bringing Yiddish actors to Toronto's first Yiddish theatre, the Victory Theatre. He was also producer and director of several productions.

After World War II he became involved with radio as a medium for reaching the Jewish community. His pioneering work began with "The Jewish Hour" which first aired in St. Catherines for a short period of time. He then moved the programme to CKFH Toronto where he first met Johnny Lombardi who was later to establish the first ethnic radio station in Canada. "The Jewish Hour" stayed on the air at CKFH for seven years. When Johnny Lombardi opened CHIN in 1966, Sam Yutchman was the first producer to join Lombardi at the station. His daughter, Zelda Young joined him in 1971 and continued to produce the programme after his death in 1979 still from CHIN radio.

Sam Yuchtman was active in many community activities and organizations. He was a trustee and vice-president of Steeles-College Memorial Chapel. He ran for alderman in North York at the time Phil Givens was major of Toronto but he was defeated.

Sam Yuchtman pioneered the use of radio to reach the Jewish community and the sound recordings in his collection are but a small sample of ethnic radio.
