Sub-series consists of records related to correspondence, created and maintained by the Canal Branch of the Department of Railways and Canals from its establishment in 1879 until the organization of the Department of Transport in 1936. The sub-series includes a number of index cards, registers and journals which are useful for checking at a glance all the correspondence received in the branch from a specific individual or department.
