Sub-series consists of records that have been generated by the headquarters of the DFO Pacific Region, and its predecessor agents. They relate to operational activities concerning the fisheries in the Pacific region, in particular in Districts No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. The records cover the period 1876-1969, with the predominant dates being 1923-1955, and include a small number of maps and photographs, and the occasional artifact, made of various materials, such as leather and brass seal tags, and samples of netting. The records consist of and relate to: correspondence of the Chief Inspector, daily and weekly field reports of various fisheries officers, various fishery regulations, reports of obstructions, canned salmon inspection reports, weekly and annual reports on hatcheries, annual reports of chief fishery officers, statistics, licenses, agendas, proceedings of commissions and investigations, general correspondence, and miscellaneous material.
The records were originally filed in the DFO office using a number of different classification systems; for example, weekly and daily reports by fishery officers are generally ordered chronologically by year. Within a given year, some of these reports were grouped alphabetically. Some records possess a number designation, such as the "10" Block for 'Regulations', and the "40" Block for 'Statistics'. Within such blocks the records were often grouped under the district that generated them. At times the individual districts were assigned a separate secondary or tertiary number in the block numbering system. The original file classification system was used, as much as possible, as the basis for differentiating groupings of records. Where there was no file classification number ascertainable, groupings were identified according to distinct operational activity or function, such as the 'International Pacific Salmon Fisheries Commission', and form, such as 'Agendas'.
