Sub-series consists of records relating to the XI Commonwealth Games. The records include security information manuals and schedules, a complete security plan, as well as a security manual for the Royal Visit to the Games.
The Eleventh Commonwealth Games were held in Edmonton, Alberta from August 3 to 12, 1978. There were 40 countries participating in 14 events. The Games were opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and were officially closed by His Royal Highness Prince Philip. Other VIPs attending the Games included the Heads of other Commonwealth countries, as well as Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Events included Athletics, Marathon and Walk, Badminton, Lawn Bowling, Boxing, Cycling, Cycling Road Race, Gymnastics, Swimming and Diving, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Lacrosse, and Shooting. The events were held in 10 venue sites in Edmonton and one in Calgary. Over 1900 participants and 500 team officials arrived from over 40 countries to take part in the Games. The athletes were housed in Lister Hall at the University of Alberta.
