Series consists of general correspondence, files on prize winners, and financial records of the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation. The Foundation is administered by the Canada Council and is designed to assist young musicians. The general correspondence documents the day-to-day running of the foundation, such as dealings with accountants and bankers concerning financial issues and communication with lawyers on legal matters. There is also correspondence with the Canada Council and other organizations on the administration of the award and correspondence relating to the appointment of board members and support staff (1973-2001). The files on prize winners contain biographical information, news clippings, correspondence, concert programs, applications and résumés (1981-2001). The financial files contain financial statements, tax forms, and correspondence with bankers, accountants and Revenue Canada (1974-2001). Also found in this series is a copy of the foundation's incorporation documents.
Series also includes photographic material of the foundation's annual award receipients Jon Kimura Parker (1998), Scott St. John (1988) and Jasper Wood (1996); the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival musicians, Toby Saks, Desmond Hoebig, Gwen Starker and William Preucil, Jon Kimura Parker and wife Aloysia Friedman (1998); and Gelber attending the Stewart Goodyear concert reception, included are Mrs. Goodyear, Stewart Goodyear, Shirley Thomson and Carol Bream (2000).
