Sub-sub-series consists of Lieutenant Governor's internal letter books covering the years 1805-1806, 1818-1841. The letter books are not indexed. The surviving entry books maintained in the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada are far from complete. The volumes contain the texts of despatches relating to both civil and military matters, addressed to the Governor-in-Chief of Lower Canada, the British Minister at Washington, the Commander of the Forces and senior government officials. The text of enclosures was not generally recorded. From 1837 (vol. 4) the letter books contain the correspondence of the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada with the Governor-in-Chief, the British Minister at Washington, the Commander in Chief of the British Forces and other prominent individuals. Volumes 4-6 include numbered and unnumbered (confidential) and military despatches as well as copies of cancelled despatches.
