Fonds consists of the papers of G. Ritchie relating to his career as a senior civil servant in the Federal public service in regional economic and industrial development, and Canada-US trade relations, 1976-1988. The fonds also contains photographs related to Ritchie's career, [ca. 1982-1985].

Ritchie, Gordon Ross, 1944- : Born in 1944, Gordon Ritchie was trained in economics and public administration at Carleton University and at l'École nationale d'administration publique. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in 1981. He entered the Public Service of Canada in 1967 where he served in various capacities within the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce (DITC) until 1978. Since 1979, he has held the following senior government positions: Deputy Secretary (Operations) of the Ministry of State for Economic Development, 1979-1982, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister for Industry, Trade and Commerce and Regional Economic Expansion (DREE) where he looked after the reorganization of the DITC and DREE and the creation of the Department of Regional Industrial Expansion (DRIE), 1982-1983; Associate DM in the newly created DRIE in 1983; Federal Economic Development Coordinator for Ontario, 1985-1986; Ambassador and Deputy Chief Trade Negotiator in the Trade Negotiations Office of the Department of External Affairs where he was directly involved in the negotiation and implementation of the Canada-USA free trade agreement, 1986-1988. G. Ritchie served on the boards of directors of Canadair, de Havilland, the Federal Business Development Bank and the Export Development Corporation. He resigned from the Public Service of Canada in September 1988.
