He was a Liberal Member of the House of Commons, 1935-1949 and served as a Member of the Privy Council, Minister without Portfolio, 1939-1940, Minister of Trade and Commerce, 1940-1948, Minister of Mines and Resources, 1948-1949, and Minister without Portfolio, 1949-1950.
