Fonds consists of microfilmed copies of two scrapbooks containing correspondence, historical sketches, clippings, reports, pamphlets, publicity releases and memorabilia designed for public relations purposes. This material is available on microfilm reels M-3070 to M-3071. There is also a photostat, dated 1973, 1 page, of a newspaper article on Grant McConachie, first president of C.P. Air and material on air crashes and early company personnel. The article is entitled 'Dickering for air routes', Ottawa Journal, 29 December 1973, and is located in horizontal storage, container 1.

Fonds also contains ten photographs depicting types of aircraft used by CP Air (ca. 1925-1950, accession number 1973-412 NPC) as well as copied photographs of aircraft used by CP Air and its predecessors; types of uniforms worn by CP Air flight personnel and photographs of Mr. G.W.G. McConachie and various senior executives of CP Air (ca. 1925-1970, accession number 1974-029 NPC).

Canadian Pacific Airlines : C.P. Air was a division of Canadian Pacific Limited, a diverse transportation, land, resources development and communications company. In 1919, Canadian Pacific first became involved in aviation when it obtained a permit to own and operate commercial aircraft. In 1930, it purchased a share of Canadian Airways, a company operating in Northwestern Canada. By 1939, Canadian Pacific was ready to set up its own airline by buying several small existing operations; purchasing began in 1942.

Besides its commercial operations, Canadian Pacific performed aero services for the Canadian government during World War II, the Korean War and afterwards. C.P. Air's trans-continental service within Canada was inaugurated in 1959 and expanded in 1968, 1969 and 1970. The first overseas run was begun in 1949 to Australia and New Zealand, and later in that year to Tokyo and Hong Kong. Service to Latin America started in 1953 and to Amsterdam in 1955. Iberian service came in 1957 with extensions to Greece in 1960 and Israel in 1971. San Francisco was added to C.P. Air's routes in 1967. The Company moved to its new headquarters in Vancouver in 1970. In 1987, the airline merged with Pacific Western Airlines to form Canadian International Airlines.
