Description:

The Secret Path is an animated film adaptation of Gord Downie's album "Secret Path" and Jeff Lemire's graphic novel of the same name. It tells the story of Chanie Wenjack (miscalled "Charlie" by his teachers), a 12-year-old Anishinaabe boy who died of exposure and hunger in October 1966 while fleeing from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential school in an attempt to reach his family, over 600 kilometres away in Ogoki Post. The film is divided into ten chapters, each a song from Downie's album. The film begins and ends with documentary footage of Gord Downie and the Wenjack family in Ogoki Post. <59mn 45s>
