Description:

Documentary featuring a journey into Indian country (Indigenous populated areas). Footage taken on board the S.S. Keenora and ports of call along a Manitoba waterway. Scenes include: St-Andrew's-on-the-Red; Lockport; Lower Fort Garry; Indigenous people meeting the boat on the wharves; Chickama tug and barge ready to move supplies inland; Grey Nuns and Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (OMI) with cadets or honour guard and young women in uniform greeting a new Grey Nun; Indians (Indigenous people) returning to their camps in sail-powered canoes; unloading supplies; expedition members exiting the Hudson Bay Company Fort Alexander or possibly Berens River gate; a Manitoba government Vickers Vedette II flying boat flying by; Indians seated in a large circle (Indigenous distribution of supplies - possibly treaty days); fourr Indians (Indigenous men) wearing treaty medals; Indigenous mother with baby in a moss bag; expedition including Indigenous guides with supplies loaded in canoes; portaging using rail carts; close-up of loon on nest with chick; plentiful fishing; de-scaling fish; boy using snapping turtle to portage bag; moose; various stages of wild rice harvesting: using sticks to bend over stalks, showing chaff in canoe, heating seeds to dry out, separating chaff from grain, stepping on grain to separate chaff (Métis used to dance during this part of the processing); non-Indigenous family gathering; Navajo silversmith making jewelry out of coins in southern United States; Navajo woman modeling bracelets and necklaces; large crane or heron in nest; San Ysidro Trading Company in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where jewelry maker sells his jewelry; and baby in cradleboard. <29mn 40s>
