Recorded at the interviewee's home in Toronto, Ontario. Wiley was born in 1895 outside Gananoque. Her mother was of German origins and her father was of Scottish descent. Her father was a farmer specializing in raising hogs. At 16 she entered the science faculty at Queen's University. At 17 she travelled to an area 17 miles Southwest of Saskatoon to teach new immigrants, mainly Norwegians, English. Upon the completion of her degree at the age of 19 she took a job with the Civil Service in Ottawa and trained as a seed analyst. She worked three years in Ottawa until her marriage in 1918. She moved to Winnipeg with her husband and arrived one month after the General Strike of 1919. When her marriage broke up she returned to her job in Ottawa in 1921.
