Marie - January 24 2003, Ottawa) was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the son of Frank Ayoub (also known as Ferris Ayoub) and Emaline Ferris. In 1930, he left school to become a sailor and he maintained his passion for ships until his death, becoming a member of many marine historical organizations in Canada and the U.S. After the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959, Ayoub started to compile an important collection of records on the backgrounds of the different vessels that came to the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway during the 20th century. For his research, he became a frequent visitor at the National Library of Canada, the National Archives of Canada and the Transport Canada Library. George Ayoub also spent more than 25 years photographing ships, in particular at the Iroquois (Ontario) lock.Source:Private -
