Haida hosted the Aboriginal Repatriation Conference in May, 2004 in Massett, Haida Gwaii, B.C. Burton largely photographed the various totems, carvers, and community members around old and new Massett during this time. Including Lawrence Knowles, a great stone carver and Vince Collison dressed for the Repatriation Conference.
From a totem at the Skidegate Museum, Totem Face was used in Burton's exhibition Celebration and Change with the following caption. "The carved face is one of the figures on a Northwest Coast totem pole, an important art form and means of communicating kinship relations. This totem pole is one of a series of six raised in an elaborate ceremony at the Haida Gwaii Museum in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) in 2001. The six poles were made by Haida carvers to honour six important southern Haida villages, five of which were decimated by smallpox in the 19th century." (Julia Murphy)
