Support 12.400 x 9.100 cmScope and content:A typewritten inscription attached to this large porcelain portrait miniature identifies the sitter as Miss Jessie White, a daughter of the journalist and politician, the Hon. Thomas White (1830-1888). Elected to the House of Commons under the Conservatives in 1878, he was appointed the Minister of the Interior in 1885 and was a valued member of the Macdonald government. His early death in 1888 caused by pneumonia cut short any prospect of him becoming Macdonald's successor., Hugo Meisel was an Austrian artist known to have worked on porcelain.Additional name(s):Additional information:Signatures and inscriptions note:Inscribed.
