22 slides: colour.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of majority of professional photographic works produced by Edward J Spiteri. Spiteri's work reflects his love of Calgary and southern Alberta (where he was raised and lives).
The fonds contains early works produced while abroad in Britain and Malta (Spiteri is of Maltese heritage). It also contains works from the National Film Board's project "Between Friends" which culminated in the publication of a book by the same name. This book explores communities living along the US-Canada border. Other photo essays in the fonds include a series on the conditions in the Lethbridge and Spy Hill provincial jails, and another on life in the Hutterite community of Standoff, AB. The Calgary Series consists of prints created during Calgary's centennial for the book, "Calgary, Images of a City." Fonds also contains portraits of WO Mitchell, images of bridges and landscapes in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Born in Calgary in 1939, Ed Spiteri has documented Calgary and the surrounding area. His works can be found in the following books: Hutterites. Calgary: Glenbow-Alberta Institute, 1978 and Between Friends/Entre Amis. Ottawa: McClelland and Stewart Limited, 1976.
