The series includes records of Rocky Mountains Park's first two Superintendents, records from the Banff Park museum, and central registry files documenting more recent activities in the park.
Architectural drawings and cartographic material includes the following: RG84M 80103-48 consists of drawings, dated [1911], of the Banff Park Shelter building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Francis C. Sullivan, associate architects, Ottawa.
RG84M 84503-21 consists of plans, dated 1912-1914, for swimming pool and bath house, Cave and Basin National Historic Site, Banff, designed by Painter & Swales, architects. RG84M 2000-00291-9 consists of Banff townsite and Banff National Park land matter blueprints, maps and specifications of heritage resource conservation.Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Parks Canada Agency. Banff National Park (Alta.) : Banff National Park emerged out of the Canada's first national park, Rocky Mountains Park, which the Department of the Interior established in 1885. George Stewart, the first superintendent of the park, was responsible for setting the early boundaries. He was relieved of his duties in 1897 and replaced by Howard Douglas. A series of further contractions (under the Forestry Branch of Department of the Interior) and expansions (under the Dominion Parks Branch of the Department of the Interior) of park boundaries followed. In 1930, the park became officially known as Banff National Park.Additional information:General note:RG84M 80103/48: This structure was one of five designs on which the two men collaborated. It was demolished in 1930.
