Scope and content:Series consists of records maintained in the 1961 central registry system of the Department of Trade And Commerce. This registry system was established in 1961 and was operative till 1966. In this system a block number is allotted to a specific branch or program. As an example, all registry files starting with number 8 were created by the Exhibitions Branch. The file key to this system is as follows: A - Trade Publicity Branch; 2 - Administrative Files - (Supplies, Accommodation, Expenses, etc.); 3 - Commodities Branch; 4 - International Trade Relations Branch; 5 - Industrial Promotion Branch; 6 - Trade Services Branch; 7 - General Subjects; 8 - Exhibition Branch; 9 - Canadian Government Travel Bureau; 10 - Wheat and Grain; 11 - Standards Branch; 12 - Dominion Bureau of Statistics; 13 - National Design Branch (Design Council); 14 - Board of Grain Commissioners; 15 - Export Credits Insurance Corporation; 16 - Canadian Commercial Corporation; 17 - Canadian Wheat Board; 18 - Trade Commissioner Service; 19 - U.S.A. Foreign Aid Programs (Marshall Plan, etc.); 19-200 - Organization for Economic Co-operation and; Development (O.E.C.D.); 19-100 - (Formerly Organization for European Economic Co-operation (O.E.E.C.); 20 - Classified Registry; 21 - National Research Council; 22 - United Nations Organization; 23 - Economics Branch; 24 - Barter Trade; 25 - Visitors; 25m - Trade Missions - Outgoing; 26 - Atomic Energy Control Board and Associate Agencies; (Eldorado, etc.); 27 - Dominion Coal Board; 28 - Parliamentary Enquiries; 29 - Agriculture & Fisheries Branch; 30 - Trans-Canada Air Lines; 31 - Economic Adviser - (Dr. Firestone); 32 - Legal Branch & Prosecutions; 33 - Crown Companies - General; 34 - National Energy Board; 35 - Domestic Commerce Services (General); 36 - Economic and Technical Assistance Branch (Colombo Plan, now - External Aid Office); 37 - Capital Cost Allowance Branch; 38 - Small Business Administration; 39 - Depreciation Certification Branch; 40 - National Productivity Council; 41 - Trade Fairs & Missions Branch.
In many instances correspondence from the previous sequentially numbered file system was brought forward and incorporated into this system, resulting in correspondence contained therein dating back to the early 1930's. Also some files will contain correspondence beyond 1966.
Volume 3179 consists of four surveys created in 1945 by a consultant working for the Department of Trade and Commerce. These reports were presented to the External Trade Advisory Committee. The reports are titled: Survey of Export Capacities and Estimate of Actual Exports in the Transition Period (1946-1947). They present the analysis of the following Canadian industries: Forest - Pulp and Paper (dated June 6th, 1945), Forest - Logs, Lumber, Shingles, Plywood, Furniture (dated July 21st, 1945), Aluminum (dated August 11th, 1945), and Copper-Brass (dated October 1st, 1945).Finding aid:(Paper) Finding aid 20-2 is a printout of a computer generated subject index (KWOC) relating to volumes 562-607, 610-691, 694-1078.
