The cartographic records consist of letter carrier routes in eight locations in Canada including: Campbell River, B.C.; Matane and Laval, P.Q.; Paris and Petawawa, Ont.; St. John's, Nfld.; Sydney Mines, N.S.; and Weyburn, Sask. in the 1960's; as well as letter carrier services to Ajax, Pickering, Bay Ridge and Fairport Beach.Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Canada. Post Office Dept. Letter Carrier Service : Letter Carrier Delivery (LCD) service was introduced in 1874 in Montréal. Initially the service was attached to the Secretary's Office, then to the Postal Service Branch (1921), Post Office Service (1945) and then to the Operations Branch (1947) which was responsible for developing policy relating to all forms of postal service, for controlling the number of staff employed in post offices, for controlling the Letter Carrier Delivery service and for determining the service to be provided by individual offices.
