Established on November 8th, 1940, its five original members included the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood of Canada, the Ukrainian Self-Reliance, the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada, the United Hetman Organization of Canada, and the United Ukrainian Organization. It now consists of more than 25 members. The committee also acts as the main representative for the Ukrainian Canadian community in all matters relating to it.
Its aims are to co-ordinate the efforts of its member-societies in achieving goals of interest to the Ukrainian Canadian community at large. The U.C.C. also preserves and disseminates Ukrainian Canadian culture. It operates on the central institution of Ukrainian secular and church organizations acting legally in Canada and does not claim any political affiliations.
Key series of this fonds comprise; the World Congress of Free Ukrainians, the Pan American Ukrainian Congress, the World Congress of Free Ukrainians (CKBY), relations between Soviet and independent Ukraine, academic and educational affairs, youth, arts and cultural initiatives in Canada and abroad, political involvement in Canada. Also included is a wide variety of correspondence from within the country and abroad, media issues regarding CRTC and CBC on cultural plurality. Series also focus on human rights issues, veterans' affairs and women's committees among many other community affairs.
Some of the organization's historic objectives have included the admission and support of Ukrainian refugees after 1945 until the independence of Ukraine, support for multiculturalism and Canada-sponsored projects in independent Ukraine.
