Collection consists of Captain Samuel Anderson's orderly book, 1777-1780, 127 pages; a memorandum book of Adjutant John Valentine, 1785, 32 pages; an account book of Captain Crawford's Company, 1782, 1784, 131 pages; and transcripts of files 1 and 2, 172 pages. The collection is on microfilm reel H-1664 (frames 540-803).

King's Royal Regiment of New York, 1776-1783 : Sir Guy Carlton in 1776 conferred the name, the King's Royal Regiment of New York, on the Battalion raised by Sir John Johnson in the then Province of New York, during the American War of Independence. Most of the men in the Regiment were originally from Glengarry County, Scotland, who assisted other loyalists in escaping into Canada. Many men of Johnson's regiment were employed on the fortification of Sorel, St. Jean, Isle aux Noix, and other military posts in the District of Montreal.

Following the disbandment of the Regiment in the winter of 1783-1784, the men of the First Battalion with their families, settled in a body in the first five townships west of what is now the boundary of Quebec, being the present townships of Lancaster, Charlottenburgh, Cornwall, Osnabruck and Williamsburg, in the Counties of Glengarry, Stormont and Dundas, Ontario.

General note:

Files 1 and 2 were received by the National Archives of Canada in 1909 from R.A. Pringle (great-great-grandson of Samuel Anderson) of Ottawa. Files 3 and 4 were presented in 1879 to the Library of Parliament by G.B. Sills of Napanee, through the courtesy of Sir John A. Macdonald, and transferred the same year to the National Archives of Canada.
