The fonds also contains photographs of ships in Canadian drydocks [ca. 1920]; and ships and river vessels, designed by firms German and Milne and Milne, Gilmore and German, [ca. 1918-1947].
The fonds also contains a collection of designs for warships, lake steamers, ferries, frigates, and ice breakers, 1917-1967.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Milne, Harold, 1898-1974 : W. Harold Milne, P.Eng., was born in England and received his education and apprenticeship training in England and Scotland before emigrating to Canada in 1917.
He served as a hull surveyor for the Imperial Munitions Board, 1917-19, acted as a naval draughtsman and designer for several firms in the postwar period, and was Operating Manager of the Saint John Drydock and Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and later of Lambert and German, Naval Architects (known subsequently as German and Milne and as Milne, Gilmore and German), a firm which designed vessels for the Canadian Government, RCN and private companies. During World War II Milne was Technical Advisor to the Director General of the Shipbuilding Branch of the Department of Munitions and Supply.
