The autobiography recounts his childhood in Finland, his immigration to Canada, his voluntary enlistment in the Finnish army, 1939-1940, his later service in the Canadian armed forces and the development of his career in the construction industry. Including "Autobiography of Matti Ensio Ylönen-Enros", typescript, 1985; passports, certificates, diplomas and other official, family documents, n.d., 1924-1978; correspondence newspaper clippings and "Letters to the Editor" written by Enros concerning the National anthem, bilingualism and the Parti Québecois, 1974-1977; postcards, n.d., 1928-1979; Länsi-Suomi, newspaper dated 2 July 1976,and clippings, n.d., 1940-1984; booklet, typescripts, manuscripts with lyrics to songs, possibly some composed by Enros, 1935, 1937, 1972; "Orders of the Day No. 34, 14 March 1940" by Field Marshall Mannerheim and other materiel in Finland, n.d., 1940; untitled photographic record to the Finnish army in the pre W.W. II period , ca. 1935.
The fonds contains photographs relating to the life and career of Matti Ensio Enros in Canada, Finland and elsewhere.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Ylönen-Enros, Matti Ensio, 1915-1985 : Matti Ensio Ylönen-Enros, construction superintendent, was born in Pieksämäki, Finland He immigrated to Canada in 1928 to join his mother, Hilja Sofia (née Ylönen) and her husband, Charles Enros (Kalle Enroos), at which time he adopted the surname of his stepfather. Beginning his first regular employment on the Beauharnois power project, most of Enros' working-life revolved around the construction industry. He supervised many major construction projects across Canada and in the United States.
He was a World War II veteran of the Finnish army, having volunteered to serve in the Russo-Finnish Winter War of 1939-1940, and the Canadian armed forces (1945).
