Scarth), 1866-1890, and a letter from Mrs. Rae to Mrs. Scarth informing her of Dr. Rae's death, 1893, 37 pages; extracts from the Imperial Paliamentary Papers relating to Dr. Rae's reports on his expedition of 1853-1854 and an award of 10,000 pounds made to him and his party, transcript, 25 pages.
The fonds also contains one photograph depicting Dr. John Rae, 1889.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Rae, John, 1813-1893 : Dr. Rae was a physician and explorer in the employ of the Hudson's Bay Company. He made four important voyages of Arctic exploration between 1846 and 1854. On his fourth expedition, 1953-1854, he obtained evidence of the fate of Sir John Franklin and his party.Additional information:General note:Letters, 1866-1893, received in 1950.
Extracts from the Imperial Parliamentary Papers, 1854-1856, received in 1943; the extracts had been sent to the Saskatchewan Historical Society from the Admiralty Library.
