International Affairs branch of Industry, Science and Technology Canada : The International Affairs Branch developed priorities and strategies related to international trade, investment, technology, and basic and applied research opportunities, all aimed at increasing competitiveness and promoting scientific excellence.

An International Planning System, operated by the branch, was designed to identify ISTC priorities by sector and targeted country, and provided senior management with an overview of the department's international activities.

The branch also ran two other programs, called the Technology Inflow Program and the Investment Development Program, which develops technology and investment prospecting techniques, and organized both incoming and outgoing missions related to these activities.
