Series consists of technical and architectural drawings and cartographic records pertaining to the Rankine Generating Station built in the early 20th century by the Canadian Niagara Power Company on the Niagara River. Drawings also pertain to related shops, employee accommodation, sales office, and power transmission lines to Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo in the State of New York. Records cover the intial planning and construction of the facilities and their subsequent expansion and maintenance.

The majority of the items were drawn by company staff, the rest were prepared by various suppliers and contractors.

Rankine Generating Station first started producing power in 1905. The facility was transferred to the Niagara Parks Commission in 2009.

The records are currently organized as they were transferred. Sets of drawings sharing a similar subject were originally united by a suspension band bearing a subject number and title (a few bands were blank and therefore LAC staff inferred a potential title). This numbering system was set up shortly before the transfer of documents to LAC occurred. Labels with individual item numbers were even pasted on the face of each drawing, often obscuring a former subject number. Current item numbers, retained for LAC's use, are constituted of the prefix which appears on the relevant suspension band and the original sequential number assigned by the Company to each item, whether prepared in-house or obtained from third parties. .

Subject numbers are alphanumeric but the key to the system is not known.
Item numbers follow a rough chronological order. Some numbers are followed by a letter offering an indication of size.

The vast majority of the items bear the trace of one, if not two, predecessor numbering systems which occasionnally converge on all three levels, but they also diverge quite significantly, The key to these systems is yet unknown.

One additional drawing consists of a Fire Insurance Plan, once framed, whose description is linked to the present record.
