Fonds includes photographs depicting a visit of Prime Minister Mykola Liwyckyj of the Ukrainian Government in Exile to Rt. Hon. John G. Diefenbaker, Ottawa, Ont., 24 February 1958; Prime Minister John Diefenbaker's visit to the Public Archives, 1961; Parliament Buildings - West Block reconstruction: spires with the Peace Tower and East Block in background and construction of tunnel, 1962; Prime Minister L.B. Pearson with the Deputy Ministers, 1963; news photos of people and social, cultural and political events in Ottawa, Ont., many of which appeared in the Ottawa Journal, 1966-1968; and news photos of people and social, cultural, and political events in Ottawa, Ont, 1960-1976. Photos by Dominion-Wide Photographs Ltd., Jim Thompson, Bill Olson, and Rod MacIvor.

Also included in fonds are moving images including: short films depicting the operation of Dominion-Wide film laboratories (1979); street-cars in Ottawa and Quebec (1959); Canadian Football League Ottawa games; 1935 Imperial news conference; Squadron 425 scramble (ca. 1980); RCMP training; Upper Canada Village; Paquette-Hudson Associates Consultants language instruction (1975); and footage from an incomplete experimental film with words from stories by Andrew Lugg. Also included are the several classic and avant-garde films entitled: Let there be light (1946); Le ballet mecanique (1924); and The apple knockers and the coke (1948). Fonds also includes Moving north (1967), a documentary on moving the seat of the Northwest Territories government from Ottawa to Yellowknife.

General note:

Moving image material and photographs, excluding material in accession 1969-0041, were aquired between 1961 and 1986 from Bill Olsen of Dominion Wide Photographs Ltd.

Custodial history:

Moving image material in accession 1969-0041 was part of CFIs Canadian Film Archive transfer to MISA on 12 May 1975. The material was originally deposited with the CFI by Dominion-Wide Photographs Ltd, Motion Picture Division, in 1969.
