Fonds comprises editorial cartoons, dating 1986-1995, published in the Halifax-Herald. The works have been arranged chronologically. The caricatures are, primarily, of national interest, focussing on federal cabinet ministers and issues. Subjects include the economy, east-coast fishing industry, taxes, elections, aboriginal and environmental issues, the Senate, national unity, social programs, unemployment, Young Offenders' Act, health concerns, and capital punishment. Personalities include Brian Mulroney, Jean Chrétien, Preston Manning, Michael Wilson, Don Mazankowski, Kim Campbell, Alexa McDonough, John Turner and Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

International personalities include Margaret Thatcher, Ayatollhah Khomeini, Nelson Mandela, the Royal Family, and Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton. International issues include armed conflicts, racism, Middle East peace talks, the Gulf War, and terrorism.

MacKinnon, Bruce, 1961- : Editorial cartoonist. Bruce MacKinnon was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1961. His art training was received at both Mount Allison University and through the graphic design program at the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design. MacKinnon began cartooning on a part-time basis in 1985 and landed the full-time position of cartoonist for the Halifax Herald in 1988. He is noted for his meticulous graphic style. The recipient of several Atlantic journalism prizes, he has also been twice awarded the National Newspaper Award in both 1992 and 1993. A selection of his drawings were published in "Inklings", Nimbus Publishing, 1990. See various editions of "Portfoolio" and artist's file.
