Fonds consists of microfilmed material: two volumes relating to the Great Eastern and the laying of the trans-Atlantic cable, compiled by George Vivian Poore who acted as surveyor on board the ship. The volumes include newspaper clippings, photographs of the crew, a lecture by Poore on 'How we laid the Atlantic cable', a narrative of the voyage from Iceland to Newfoundland and an account by Poore and J.C. Deane 'The Great Atlantic Haul'. This material is located on microfilm reel A-1624.
