Fonds consists of photographs, 1928-1968, which relate to the R.C.A.F. career of Air Marshal C.R. Dunlap.
Fonds also contains textual records, 1928-1977, which are personal papers including correspondence; a photocopy of the typescript "The Saga of the Siskins" by Ernie MacNab, n.d.; and appointments and certificates relating to Dunlap's education and military service.
Fonds also contains 2 prints. There is an illustrated certificate of distinguished service, 1962, presented to Air Marshall C.R. Dunlap, in recognition of his service with NATO from 1958-1962; reproduction of a badge, n.d., of the Defence Research Board; and a view, n.d., of the National Defence College at Kingston, Ontario.
Fonds also contains a film which documents the departure of Air Marshal C.R. Dunlap from the post of Air Officer Commanding, North West Air Command, Edmonton, 1951.
Dunlap, Clarence Rupert, 1908- : Clarence Rupert Dunlap, C.B.D., Silver Star, Croix de Guerre, D.C.L., D. Eng., B. Sc., military officer, known as Larry, was born in 1908 at Sydney Mines, N.S. He received his education from Acadia University and the Nova Scotia Technical College, receiving his B. Sc. in 1928. He then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) and received his pilots wings in the following year. He served in various capacities with the R.C.A.F. during the next ten years, and in 1939 was Director of Armament at Air Force Headquarters, Ottawa. In 1942 he was posted as Commanding Officer of R.C.A.F. Station Leeming, York, England, and in 1943 went to North Africa as C.O. of a bomber wing which undertook raids in Sicily, Italy, and Sardinia. In 1945 he was promoted to Air Commodore, and was appointed to the Air Staff Headquarters. He served subsequently as C.O. of North West Air Command, Edmonton, and held a similar position at St. Hubert, Que. In 1951 he became Commandant of the National Defence College, Kingston, he was made Vice-Chief of the Air Staff in 1956 and Chief, 1962-1964. From 1964 to 1967 Dunlap was Deputy Commander in Chief, NORAD. He retired from service in 1968.
