Dunbar describes her many trips to the Arctic and the three summer cruises aboard ice-breakers to study the movement and dynamics of ice flow in Canadian and Soviet Arctic regions. She includes many details of routine daily ice observations and her book on the Arctic Islands with Keith Greenaway. Following her comments on the Arctic environment, Dunbar talks about the Manhattan voyage and Coast Guard Captain Paul Fournier.
