Jarvis in Toronto, Dr. Rolph in London, the Earl of Mount-Cashell, and the Hon. Peter McGill concerning the formation of the society, immigration and the removal of timber duties.

Bytown and Ottawa Emigration Society : The Society of "Friends of Emigration" established in 1841 was based in Bytown, Upper Canada and served many voluntary functions. The Society actively promoted settlement in Bytown and provided support to emigrants once they reached their destination. They also organized discussions on the problems and merits of settlement in Bytown as opposed to other prospective locations.
