Live fifteen-part television coverage of the 1962 federal election returns with host Bruce Marsh and anchors Norman DePoe and Blair Fraser. Results from provincial ridings across the country are announced as the polls close, with commentary from the following regional reporters: Allan Graham for the Maritimes; Pierre de Bellefeuille for Quebec; Knowlton Nash for Ontario; Warner Troyer for the prairies; and Tom Gould for British Columbia. Additional commentary and analysis from local reporters including: Doug [Brofie] in Newfoundland; Charles Vaughn in Halifax; Thom Benson at Progressive Conservative headquarters in Ottawa; Tom Earle at Liberal Party headquarters in Ottawa; John Myer of the Montreal Gazette; University of Toronto history professor John Saywell; Doug Collins in Vancouver; Larry Glover in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; David Cruikshank at Social Credit Party headquarters in Red Deer, Alberta; Basil Dean in Edmonton; Chris Higginbottom in Regina; Craig Oliver at New Democratic Party headquarters in Toronto; French-language television commentators Lucien Coté and André Laurendeau; Peter McClintock in Winnipeg; and Ken Haslam at the office of International Business Machines computer services, the source of the broadcast's electronic information. Peter Churchill conducts man-on-the-street interviews in Toronto regarding the election results. Panel discussion with Arthur Blakely, Jean-Luc Pepin, John Irving, and Scott Gordon. At regular intervals throughout the broadcast cut-ins occur of the Toronto metro area returns with host Rex Loring and anchor Art Robson. Reporter Bruce Rogers updates the results from ridings throughout the city. Interviewer Howard Somerville talks with local candidates, both defeated and victorious, including: Andrew Brewin, New Democratic candidate for Greenwood; Marvin Gelber, Liberal candidate for York South ; Donald MacDonald, leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party; Mr. Millard, New Democratic candidate for York Humber; Roland Michener, defeated Speaker for the House; Mitchell Sharp, former deputy minister of Trade and Commerce; hockey player, Leonard "Red" Kelly, for York West; Perry Ryan of Spadina; Liberal James Walker of York Centre; Frank McGee of Scarborough; Dr. Stanley Haidasz and Ian Wahn of St.Paul's riding. In addition, the evening telecast of the CBC TELEVISION NEWS with Earl Cameron is presented in the broadcast, which includes: footage and details of the aftermath of the St. Vincent de Paul Penitentiary riot with clips of vandalised buildings and prisoners behind barbed wire; and shots of French president General Charles De Gaulle's security escort during a recent tour of France.~Film clips throughout the election broadcast also include: scenes of voters outside Toronto polling stations; a fire at the Grouse Mountain Chalet in British Columbia; stills of various cabinet ministers; and aerial shots of Prince Albert and the provincial capitals. <7h 30mn>
