McMartin, Alexander, 1788-1853 : Alexander McMartin represented the County of Glengarry in the Upper Canada legislature from 1812 to 1834, with the exception of the Parliament of 1824 to 1828. Appointed Postmaster at Martintown in 1828, and Lieutenant-Colonel in the militia in 1837, he also served as Sheriff of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry from 1838 to 1847. As Ruling Elder, he represented the Presbyterian congregation of Martintown at Synod for many years.
