Fonds consists of subject files, 1898-1944; correspondence, 1872-1906; Heron Family, n.d.; and a scrapbook, 1898-1938.

Fonds also contains photographs, 1881-1912, including group shots of the American Canoe Association's camps; skiers; picnickers on the Ottawa River; cyclists; members of the Ottawa Lawn Tennis Club; Trappist Monks, Oka, Que.; a flashlight photo of the Ottawa Amateur Orchestral Society; photos of the Scott family, Ottawa, Ont.; a photograph of Sir Wilfrid Laurier and other cabinet ministers marching in procession at the Eucharistic Congress, Montreal, Que., 1910; delegates attending inaugural meeting of the Ontario Children's, 1912; founders and officers of the American Ornithologists' Union, 1883; and portraits of a variety of people including Sir Richard Scott, the Hon. Louis H. Davis, Thomas McIlwraith, Patrick Ryan, Lady Mary Scott.

Scott, William Louis, 1862-1947 : William Louis Scott, born 3 October 1862 at Ottawa, Ont., was the son of Sir Richard Scott and Mary Heron. He was educated at the Universities of Ottawa and Toronto before being called to the Bar in 1887. Scott became prominent in the practice of law in Ottawa and in the field of child welfare, being the draughtsman and chief promoter of the Juvenile Delinquent Act of 1908 and president of the Ottawa Children's Aid Society and the Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies. He was concerned with the legal aspects of child welfare legislation in other provinces and the questions of wife desertion legislation, separate schools sharing in corporate taxes.

Scott was also involved in various civic activities including serving on the council of the Ottawa Field-Naturalist' Club; was the first co-leader for oology of its Ornithology and Oology Branch; co-authored the first published list of Ottawa area birds in 1882; and suported the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra.

Scott died 22 August 1947 in Ottawa, Ont.
