Fonds consists of subject files containing correspondence, reports, briefs and cost estimates relating to the Alaska highway; 1931-1944, 17.5 cm; and publications issued chiefly by the United States government 1933-1945, 2.5 cm.

The fonds also contains one photograph showing Gombert's 75 man outfit moving down the Columbia River, Big Bend Highway, B.C.

Wardle, J. M., b. 1888 : Civil Engineer

James M. Wardle, a native of Chilliwack, B.C., was a civil engineer and a public servant. In 1931 while holding the position of chief engineer of the National Parks Branch, he was appointed to the committee considering the British Columbia - Yukon - Alaska Highway. In 1938, as Director of the Surveys and Engineering Branch of the Department of Mines and National Resources, he became a member of the joint Canada - United States Committee established to study the project.
