Keefer, Thomas A., b. 1847 : Thomas A. Keefer was born at Strathroy, Canada West, the son of the County Clerk, James Keefer (1816-1874). His uncle was the celebrated civil engineer Thomas Coltrin Keefer (1821-1914) of Ottawa. Keefer studied law at London and Toronto, and from 1873-1878 was in partnership with David A. Read, Q.C., of Toronto. After returning to Strathroy for a few years, he opened a law practice with his brother, Frank H. Keefer, at Port Arthur in the early 1880's and became involved in the promotion and development of the silver and gold deposits on the North of Lake Superior.
